Part 20
IN THIS UPDATE we secure more Alumina, and also get lost in caves that involve teleporters! I also got killed by normal enemies while grinding for cash! The frog enemies are seriously overpowered. And by overpowered, I mean I got ambushed by two werefrogs who each cast flood, reducing my teammates' HP to low, and then magically both went again, casting flood and killing my whole team. It was pretty awesome. But I managed to get enough money to buy better equipment so anyway let's go to Marse.
While following the coast up from Bakku (as were my instructions from Clack)
Hey another weird warp shrine! That's all four, I wonder what the point of these are hmm. . .
Here's marse, there was randomly a cave that led to it, which means I could've walked here before, I don't know why you'd want to but I could've!
I wonder if this kid likes shorts?
Also, Marse is kind of like Venice, except instead of romantic boats there are a series of underground tunnels, and by a series I mean there's one.
It connects to all the shops, the inn, the priest's hut, and the dock which is important.
First of all:
Oh gee big surprise. I'm starting to not even care.
Anyway, so I can take a cruise to check out the Fargo Islands, where there is said to be Alumina. So I'm going to, this is helpful because it tells you which island is which, and then you won't get lost!
I bought a ticket!
I get a little seasick sometimes. . .
I'll be going here second.
There's a boat there, it must be Brant's. I'll go there first!
I'll go here. . . in a strange way.
Weird little island with a tower on it, hmm. . .
Yeah, I had an okay time hold on anyway, I should ask around about the islands.
I'm never actually going to dock at Elba, I'm going to go there through warps from Ulupp.
I guess that explains the tower! I'd better steer clear of there.
Well anyway let's go to Liore island. OH NO SEA ENCOUNTERS?!
And starfish. Jelly bolt, heh, they can shock you, watch out! And there's also something called Sea Serpent which is a sea snake sprite recolor. Anyway, onto Loire island!
VAMPIRES?! And blue skulls. The vampires are kind of lame, although they can cast dread, which lowers the whole party's DEF. And the blue skulls are mostly just annoying and come in large numbers.
Jerin FINALLY learns blizzard, I've had her for 16 levels and she's had frost the whole time, and is just now learning it. Geez. It's pretty good, and I would throw the frost ring on her but fuck that, I mostly have her attack anyway, and heal.
There's two, and I believe that's the only piece on this island. But that's fine, I'm looking for Brant anyway.
And manticore. I'll bet that troll would vote my thread 1 these enemies don't do much, they mostly just die by my blade. Actually, Manticores can cause poison which is stupid, because poison doesn't actually hurt you in battle in this game, only on the map.
Another Apprentice sprite recoloring. They can cast spark for some reason, and are still really weak to flash. Bolt does ~400 damage to them!
These are the cubes I was talking about earlier. They're called cores, and they give you a fuckton of EXP if they don't run away, kind of like Mimicks. Here's the proof:
Again, that's almost 10x the normal amount of exp I get. Of course, they like to run and are hard to kill anyway, but it's worth it if you can.
I fell into a hole trying to get to a treasure chest. And there's no stairs out of here, which is lame, hey wait there's a guy over there HELP ME!
I fell down here too buddy, I know how you feel
Hey if you know magic can you help me escape?
Don't worry, my magic will get you out of here.
By the way, we're looking for Brant, are you. . .
Yeah, that's me. Why are you looking for me?
I'm looking for Alumina too, I heard you know where it's at.
Well since you helped me, I'll tell you. There's 1 piece on Elba Island, 2 on Ulupp, and 1 on Loire. Warps link Elba and Ulupp, so don't get lost!
kthxbai
ESCAPE!
Gotta go back to Marse, my girlfriend (MY GIRLFRIEND) is waiting for me.
Awesome, 3/7 pieces of Alumina! Ulupp island is next.
Here we are.
That warp takes us to Elba island, but not yet! There are three important things here (apart from new enemies!)
and Green Magi. They ran out of creative names.
And mud ghoul. The doll doesn't have nails in it, but it drops straw dolls. The straw doll dropped long nails. . . I think they got it backwards. The mud ghoul is tough and annoying. But the Nail Dolls can INSTANTLY KILL YOUR CHARACTERS AND FEEL THE NEED TO CAST IT ON MIXAM EVERY FUCKING BATTLE. Luckily it doesn't work very often, but when it does. . .
Eye curse, which is a very enemy.
DAMN! Now Aguro is even more ridiculously overpowered!
I like pulling switches! I HATE UNPULLED SWITCHES!
Oh hey look, that door opened! That must've been important. Last thing here:
8/8!!!!
I could go have my wish granted right now! But then the Egg Dragon would spread the eggs out again, and they'd end up in places I haven't been yet, replacing treasures there. I don't know if they're important stuff I'll miss, they might just be ex potions or crap like that, should I risk it and have my wish granted now, or should I wait until I know it won't replace any treasure, and then have to backtrack through those dungeons?
Okay, let's take that warp to Elba Island!
Elba Island is blue, and Ulupp is red, how could you get lost between them? Anyway.
This raises your DEF by like, 40, but I'm not going to equip it, it isn't that great.
Jerin learned Mirror, her most important spell, hands down. As I may have pointed out before, Mirror is like Reflect, in that it sends enemy magic right back at them. It is basically manditory for the final battles.
MORE SWITCHES!
After wandering around a bit, I ended up at that door, and inside was a teleporter to that chest right there.
4/7 This fetch quest is almost over!
There's an inn here but it's pretty convenient so I'm staying, I need it.
Lufia learned flood, the strongest water spell. It only hits a group of enemies, but it's fucking powerful, which is why those frogs kept killing me. Maybe I'll equip the water ring later. Maybe.
There's a warp here, which takes me back to Ulupp island, and. . .
This chest had Alumina in it, I swear. 5/7
But, there's still the level inbetween this one and the ground floor, which I was on when I originally entered this island. How do I get there you ask? SWITCHES!
This changes the destination of that last teleporter.
Now I can get into that door I opened earlier!
6/7 SO CLOSE. Hey wait, Brant said there was 1 on Loire, which I got, 2 on Ulupp, both of which I got, and 1 on Elba, which I got. Plus the one he gave me and the one in Gayas, that's only 6. Wait, I need seven. Shit, I'd better go ask him where the other piece is!
Ah ha, so some Kingly dude has it!
Ah, let me see if I can find it.
Well here's a river. . . hmm. . .
okay, an area enclosed by mountains, getting warmer. . .
Ah ha! Herat. Okay, let's go!
. . . NEXT UPDATE! Hahahaha! Fooled you! I'll finish up my alumina quest, gain the ability to go underwater, and then get the dual blade, ALL IN THE NEXT UPDATE! Coming soon (tomorrow) SAME BAT TIME, SAME BAT STATION!
Hey so apparently I could've gotten a Might Helmet, which I think is the best helmet, if I had gone to the Tower of Light before the story mandated it. Oh well.
ALSO don't forget to advise me on whether or not I should get my egg wish granted now or wait so I don't miss any treasures, although then I'd have to do a ton of backtracking.
